Program Description

What does Madrid taste like? The best place to find out is where locals have been choosing fresh ingredients, sharing culinary ideas and preserving family recipes for generations. During this cooking class in Madrid, you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at Spanish cuisine - from visiting a local market to preparing traditional tapas and delicious paella. It's an opportunity to discover the flavours of Spain not only at the table, but also through cooking together.

Your experience begins near one of Madrid's historic markets, where you'll meet a local guide specialising in gastronomy. Surrounded by stalls filled with fresh produce, you'll learn about the everyday food traditions of Madrid's residents, chat with local vendors and help select the ingredients needed for the dishes you'll be making. This is where the story of many Spanish specialities begins - with carefully chosen ingredients and simple, time-tested flavour combinations.

Next, you'll head to a private kitchen, where you'll take part in a hands-on cooking class in a small group. Under the guidance of a culinary expert, you'll prepare classic Spanish tapas, including croquetas - delicate croquettes with a crispy coating - and patatas bravas, potatoes served with flavourful homemade sauces. A cheese platter will also be served, accompanied by a glass of vermouth, a traditional Spanish aperitif.

The real culinary challenge will be preparing Valencian-style paella. Step by step, you'll learn how to make this famous dish, discover its origins and master techniques that will help you recreate it at home. Cooking together will not only teach you the recipe, but also help you understand why the choice of ingredients and cooking methods are so important to the final flavour.

After all the cooking, it's time for the best part - tasting the dishes you've prepared yourself. You'll sit down together to enjoy your tapas and paella, accompanied by beer or wine. To finish, you'll savour seasonal fruit and take home the recipes you've learnt during the class, ready to recreate those Spanish flavours in your own kitchen.

This cooking experience in Madrid is about much more than learning a few recipes. It's a chance to connect with Spanish traditions, local ingredients and the pleasure of sharing a meal, which plays such an important role in the country's culture. And the best souvenirs from this experience will be the skills and recipes you can enjoy long after your trip has ended.
