Program Description
Embark on a full-day journey from Athens to the breathtaking Meteora, one of Greece's most extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Famous for its towering rock formations crowned by centuries-old monasteries, Meteora is one of the country's most iconic landmarks and an important centre of Eastern Orthodox monasticism.
Your adventure begins with a comfortable coach transfer from Athens to the town of Kalabaka, located at the foot of the Meteora rocks. Upon arrival, you'll enjoy a traditional Greek lunch, with vegetarian and vegan options available.
The tour continues with a guided exploration of the Meteora region. Accompanied by a local guide, you'll admire all six monasteries from the outside and visit two active monasteries (the number of monasteries open to visitors depends on the day of the week). Along the way, you'll learn about the fascinating history of these remarkable monasteries, the unique geological formations, and the lives of the monks who built their communities atop the towering cliffs.
An audio guide is also included, allowing you to discover even more about the history, culture and spiritual significance of this extraordinary destination at your own pace.
