Program Description
Explore the fascinating history of Northern Cyprus on a full-day jeep safari from Protaras, Ayia Napa or Larnaca. Cross the Green Line, which has divided the island since 1974, and discover ancient ruins, historic landmarks and places that tell the story of Cyprus' complex past.
Your journey begins with a drive towards Famagusta, where you'll cross into the northern part of the island. Along the way, you'll pass through the former restricted area known as the Ghost Town of Varosha, once a popular seaside resort. Explore the accessible section of this abandoned district, walking past deserted buildings and towards the sandy beach that once attracted visitors from around the world.
Next, visit the ancient ruins of Salamis, one of Cyprus' most important archaeological sites. Wander among the remains of this once-thriving city-kingdom, admire its historic structures and take in the surrounding scenery. During the summer months, there may also be an opportunity to enjoy a swim.
The tour continues to the Tomb of S.aint Barnabas, an important religious landmark dedicated to the apostle traditionally associated with bringing Christianity to Cyprus. You'll also have the option to explore the nearby monastery dedicated to him.
Later, you'll visit the historic centre of Famagusta, surrounded by impressive Venetian walls. Enjoy some free time to explore the old town, browse local shops or relax with a coffee. You can also choose to visit Othello's Tower, where panoramic views of the surrounding area provide a memorable end to your sightseeing.
During the day, there will be time for an optional lunch and drinks. Please note that entry to archaeological sites is optional, and admission fees must be paid directly by visitors. After exploring Famagusta and its surroundings, you'll return to your hotel.
