Program Description

Step into the fascinating history of Istanbul and discover two of its most iconic landmarks in one experience. This is a perfect choice if you want to explore the city’s top attractions and feel its unique atmosphere – from mysterious underground chambers to monumental sacred architecture.

Your journey begins with a visit to the Basilica Cistern – an impressive underground structure dating back to the 6th century, built during the reign of Emperor Justinian I. Hidden beneath the streets of the city, this remarkable space is supported by 336 marble columns, each around 9 metres high. As you walk through its atmospheric corridors, you will discover unique architectural details, including the famous Medusa head, which continues to intrigue visitors. Once capable of holding up to 80,000 cubic metres of water, the cistern today captivates with its history and unforgettable ambiance.

Next, you will explore the Hagia Sophia – one of Istanbul’s most important landmarks and a true masterpiece that blends Christian and Islamic heritage. Accompanied by a guide, you will uncover the rich history of this extraordinary monument – from its origins as a Byzantine basilica, through its time as a mosque, to its present-day significance. Admire the grand dome, elegant minarets, and architectural elements that reflect different eras.

This combination of two remarkable sites offers a unique opportunity to experience different sides of Istanbul – from its hidden underground wonders to its awe-inspiring sacred spaces.
