Program Description

Depart early in the morning towards Berkane, Tafoughalt to reach the imperial jewel of 13 centuries of Moroccan history. The visit to the city will start with the Jewish quarter of Mellah and a visit to the 17th century Aben Danan synagogue. Afterwards, drive to the hill overlooking the Rif and Middle Atlas mountains and panoramic views of all parts of the city. Pass through the Bab Bou Jeloud gate - the ‘blue gate’ in Fes el Bali. Walk through the narrow streets of the medina. Visit to the Al-Karawijjin mosque - one of the oldest universities in the world (9th century) and a visit to the Al-Attarine Quranic school. Lunch at Mnebhi Palace - the historic site where the Fesca Treaty was officially signed in 1912, which established the French protectorate. Visit to a traditional leather tannery. Entrance to a terrace from where you can admire the entirety of the tannery hidden between houses of several storeys. Transfer to the hotel, accommodation, dinner, overnight. Breakfast, transfer to Volubilis. Visit to the best-preserved ruins of an ancient Roman city in North Africa. In 1997 Volubilis was included in the list of UNESCO protected sites. Drive to Meknes, the ‘Moroccan Versailles’ of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit to the Bab Mansor gate (currently under restoration). Drive through the Jewish quarter and along the walls of the royal palace. Lunch. Return to Saidia around 19:00.
