Program Description

Morning departure in the direction of Lake Ohrid, called the "Blue Pearl of the Balkans". We will drive the scenic route, then cross the border with Macedonia. If you are interested in exploring the layers of history spread out on Ohrid hill, want to hear the story of the town, want to see the authentic architecture and enjoy the many Byzantine-style icons and frescoes, Ohrid is the perfect place. It is the largest city on Lake Ohrid and the eighth-largest city in the country. The city is rich in picturesque houses and monuments, and tourism is predominant. You will have the chance to find out why the town and Lake Ohrid is preserved by UNESCO as place with environmental, historical and cultural significance. We will visit old town with picturesque narrow streets, ancient theathre - the oldest and only Hellenistic- type in the country, Samuel's Fortress which is the highest peek of town that provides the best panorama of the city and lake and historic church (Saints Clement and Panteleimon or St. John at Kaneo). Than we will walk down the hill to new promenade on lakefront and have a chance to take a relaxing boat ride on Ohrid lake to admire architecture of the city from the crystal blue waters. Free time for shopping and lunch.  Chosen guided language available subject to minimal number of participants.
